 | | | Touring Queensland - get around in style |
|
There are myriad options for touring the wonderful Sunshine State of Queensland. Technically, its easy to find your way around, so many travellers choose to hire a vehicle and take their time cruising the coastline and beautiful hinterlands available when you tour Queensland. Having said that, the distances are usually a surprise (ie. you could drive for weeks and still not cover the whole of the State!) . So it makes sense to plan ahead, and decide if the drive yourself option suits you, or if you might be better suited to individual tours run by local experts (who can often show you places you'd never find on your own).
Queensland operators offer day tours and extended tours, and some of the suggested 'must see' destinations include : - Fraser Island
- Whale watching in Hervey Bay region
- The Whitsunday Islands including Whitehaven beach
- The dinosaur footprints at Winton in Outback Queensland
- Kuranda and the old Queensland Rail train journey in particular
- The Great Barrier Reef
- Australia Zoo (run by the Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin)
- The Gold Coast hinterland and Mount Tamborine
- Mount Glorious outside of Brisbane
- Toowoomba's Carnival of Flowers
- Stanthorpe and its winery district
- Hot Air Ballooning over the Atherton Tablelands
- Great Keppel Island
- Take an Asian cooking course at The Spirit House
- Seafood buffet at the Marriott Hotels in Brisbane or the Gold Coast
- A steak lunch at the old pub near Julatten in the Port Douglas hinterland
- Walk on the beach at Cape Tribulation
- Breathe the fresh air at Millaa Millaa falls
- Eat at the same restaurants celebrities and personalities such as Sean Penn, Bill Clinton, Tom Cruise, Kylie Minogue, Mel Gibson and more
And believe it or not ... all these things can be done in a day from the local area (we mean a day for each one, not all at once !) But to encompass all the above, you'll probably need a month of travel set aside ! So to reiterate, Queensland is a big BIG place - its wise to plan online so you have your itinerary prepared before you arrive. And by booking ahead, and booking direct with tourism operators, you will usually save a substantial amount on your next Queensland touring holiday.
